It was Christmas!
The entire BASH gang was in attendance...dressed in their finest! They had come to the exquisite theater to see the performance of the year......"The Nutcracker". The prima ballerina was known to the group....she WAS one of the group!

The theater rang with gaiety as the scotties and their BASH pals hurried to their seats, visited with old friends, and chatted excitedly about the Prima Ballerina who would be the Star of the evening. SHE was going to perform the 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy'!!!!

The theater was decorated in its Christmas best, the lights creating a soft glow on the scotties' excited faces. As the lights dimmed, the scotties leaned forward in their seats, eagerly staring at the velvet curtain that hung across the stage.

The orchestra began the overture, and the stagelights brightened. The scotties were impatient to see their Prima Ballerina.....the music wafted through the theater, casting a mystical spell on the darkened room. Each scottie felt the music transport them back to their puppyhood.....to those magical mornings when the 'jolly old elf' had visited during the night and left such fabulous presents in their stockings. Sighs could be heard as the scotties felt that joyous Christmas spirit surround them and fill them with excitement and anticipation.

As the music grew in intensity, the velvet curtain parted......and 'The Nutcracker' began. Each character was perfect.....the dancers were light on their paws and performed wondrously. The music carried them away to another place and time, as they became absorbed in the story of the girl and her nutcracker doll.

And then SHE appeared......the Sugar Plum Fairy!!! Wild cheering erupted as SHE pirouetted across the stage, performing a perfect arabesque. Her paw shoes daintily performing the intricate steps of the beautiful music, she turned and pivoted, she twirled and spun. SHE danced as though on a cloud, her face glowing with the magic of the moment. She WAS the Sugar Plum Fairy!!

As the performance came to a close, the Sugar Plum Fairy made a solo appearance to take her bows. The theater erupted in '"Bravo!!!" and "Arrrrrrrrrooooooooo!!" . The 'Sugar Plum Fairy' made 14 curtain calls that evening....the reports in Variety said that it was "magical, an experience not to be forgotten!" As the BASH youngsters left the theater, they chatted excitedly....what an exciting evening it had been. As each scottie stepped into his waiting limousine, shouts of 'Merry Christmas' and 'Season's Greetings' were heard. As the last limousine pulled away from the theater, the marque lights over the entrance began to glow as if by magic.

The words glowed into the night...."Merry Christmas to ALLLLLLLLL from the BASH Author, Carol J. and the BASH Illustrator, Karen D.!!!!"

And who is the talented, light-pawed Sugar Plum Fairy??? Well, we aren't telling......but look to your wee one. See if the magical light glows in their furry face........ who knows, it just may!!

Season's Greetings from the BASH Bunch!!!!
